Water is life

Nardy Velasco shares her story

Nardy Velasco, from the San Manuel community, holds the title of “Cacique mayor”, highest-ranking traditional indigenous leader within the “Central Indigena Chiquitana Amanecer Roboré” (CICHAR). Roboré is a town nestled in eastern Bolivia, within the province of Chiquitos. Nardy is deeply committed to safeguarding water resources within her territory and thanks to the various workshops and activities offered by the VCA project, she has been able to mobilize more than 50 women from the Central Indígena. Velasco and VCA joined forces to empower the women of Central Indígena to actively participate in capacity building and acquire knowledge about their individual and collective rights, especially regarding water protection in their community.
