© Henry Maillet & Jeffrey Wong/WWF-ParaguayRural, indigenous, and peasant communities in Paraguay are the most affected by deforestation, and the government's environmental policies have been ineffective in protecting the country's forests. For example, drug trafficking is a new and violent actor in forest destruction, with marijuana cultivation leading to the loss of thousands of hectares of forest. But the legislative branch seems to ignores this.
The ‘Right to a Future’ dossier is a powerful advocacy tool that sheds light on these and other challenges in relation to human and environmental rights faced by communities in Paraguay.
It includes 20 specific cases related to forest issues, agribusiness, and universal rights, each highlighting the problems associated with deforestation, soybean fumigation, land titling, and access to water. The purpose of narrating each case is to expose the problems and find solutions for the affected people, and to support the leaders who are working tirelessly to bring justice.
The cases could have been solved a long time ago, but the common pattern in each case is the lack of interest from the state, resulting in the cases being forgotten.
